Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Deadly Attack against Peacekeepers in Mali

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack against a MINUSMA [United Nations Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali] patrol that killed two Chadian peacekeepers and injured one on 23 May in the Kidal region.  The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Chad.  He wishes a speedy and full recovery to the wounded peacekeepers.

The Secretary-General restates the position that attacks against MINUSMA will not weaken the determination of the United Nations to support the implementation of the peace agreement.
