Secretary-General Applauds ‘UN Cares’ Volunteers of Ethiopia, Malawi, Russian Federation Teams for Award-Winning HIV Efforts

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message for the UN Cares Awards, in New York, today:

Dear colleagues and friends,

In a world where multiple issues call for our attention, HIV remains an issue of global importance and relevance to United Nations personnel and their families.

I launched UN Cares in 2008, to help the United Nations system become a model workplace with regard to HIV.  I am proud of the inter-agency teams of UN Cares volunteers who have undertaken creative efforts to implement that vision.

As I complete my term as Secretary-General, I want to honour all involved in UN Cares for their outstanding work.  Today I warmly congratulate this year’s winning teams: Ethiopia, Malawi and the Russian Federation.

The United Nations is working worldwide to end AIDS by 2030.  I thank and commend all who are helping to ensure that the United Nations continues to be an organization that cares.
