Reduction in Budgetary Allocation of the Ministry

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the budget estimates for the Ministry of Minority Affairs have been reduced at Revised Estimates (RE) stage in the financial year 2021-22. However, an increased amount of ₹ 5020.50 crore has been allocated in F.Y. 2022-23. Also, Ministry has expended 98.46% of the allocated budget in 2021-22.

            The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements Pre-matric, Post Matric and Merit cum mean scholarship scheme for educational empowerment of students or beneficiaries belonging to six notified minority communities i.e. Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Zoroastrian (Parsi) in all States across the country. Also Maulana Azad Education Foundation implements Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship for meritorious girls belonging to minority community. Since 2014-15, 5.20 crore Scholarships have been provided to the students belonging to minority communities compared to 3.03 crore scholarships before 2014-15.

The year-wise details of the aforesaid Scholarships awarded during each of the last five years i.e. from 2016-17 to 2021-22 are as follows:
