A collaborative project “Optimum Ground Water Development Plan for Multi-Layer Coastal Aquifer System of Neyveli Hydrological Basin” was carried out by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and NLCIL during the period 2006-13. Based on the studies a mathematical model was developed jointly to restrict the salt water intrusion and measure the declining rate of groundwater due to extraction by the NLCIL. Further, there is no sign of salt water intrusion in the Neyveli Aquifer system.

The status of ground water table as monitored by the CGWB, in Cuddalore district from year 2017 to 2022, is given in Annexure.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Bishweswar Tudu in a  written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
