Update on Progress of AB-PMJAY and ABDM
Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) provides health coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to 12 crore families constituting bottom 40% of India’s population. Additionally, in March 2024, approximately 37 lakh families of Accredited Social Health Activists, Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers were included under the scheme. The scheme was further expanded to cover 6 crore senior citizens of age 70 years and above, belonging to 4.5 crore families, irrespective of their socio-economic status.
As on 28.02.2026, a total of 43.52 crore Ayushman cards have been created, including 1.14 crore Ayushman Vay Vandana cards created for senior citizens aged 70 years and above, and a total of 36,229 hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme across the country, out of which 19,483 are public and 16,746 are private hospitals.
The latest national master of Health Benefit Package provides cashless healthcare services for 1,961 procedures across 27 medical specialties. As on 28.02.2026, a total of 11.69 crore hospital admissions amounting to Rs. 1.73 lakh crore have been authorized under the scheme.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) was launched by the Government of India in September 2021 to support the development of an integrated and citizen-centric national digital health ecosystem. As on 11.03.2026, the details of overall progress of ABDM are as under:
• Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) created for citizens – 86,64,46,563
• Health records linked to patient’s ABHA – 90,70,14,529
• Facilities using ABDM enabled software – 2,56,542
The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
