Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles inaugurates contemporary indigenous Fashion and Textiles of India Exposition & Know your Weaves campaign in celebration of National Handloom Day 2025

The Secretary, Ministry of Textiles Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, inaugurated contemporary indigenous Fashion and Textiles of India Exposition & Know your Weaves campaign organised by National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy in association with India Art Fair in New Delhi , today , in celebration of National Handloom Day 2025.

                                    

Inaugurating the event, Secretary said that “Know Your Weaves” campaign aims to promote awareness about rich and diverse handloom weaving traditions of our country . Smt.Rao   urged everyone especially the younger generation to visit the exhibition and experience the rich heritage. Secretary visited the exhibition and interacted with the weavers along with Smt Amrit Raj, DC Handicrafts  ,Dr.M.Beena , DC Handlooms and other officials of Ministry of Textiles

           

The Ministry of Textiles is organizing “Know Your Weaves” Campaign from 1st to 7th August 2025. The campaign seeks to sentitize the public, particularly students, youth and urban consumers towards the value of traditional handwoven textiles and the importance of supporting the local weavers and artisans. The Fashion Design council of India (FDCI) presents an exposition of contemporary Fashion and Textiles of India in collaboration with India Art Fair’s Young Collectors’ Programme at the innovation gallery.

The 11th  National Handloom Day will be celebrated on 7th August 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.  Union Minister of Textiles  Shri Giriraj Singh,  Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (Textiles) and Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) will be attending the function. Around 650 weavers from the across the country will be attending the function

The week long celebrations of National Handloom Day includes, display of award-winning handloom samples; live loom demonstration; unveiling – “Haat on Wheels” (a mobile handloom outlet initiative); exclusive handloom sari exhibition cum sale at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi; Loom Hackathon by IIT Delhi; International Hand-woven Expo with Foreign buyers; exporters & handloom weavers; Awards to the best performer in export of handloom products etc.
