Setting Up of Steel Plants

Steel is a deregulated sector, the decision regarding setting up of steel plants in any State is based on commercial considerations and market factors by the concerned Steel companies/investors. The Government acts as a facilitator for development of steel sector in the country.

As envisaged in National Steel Policy (NSP)-2017, to achieve the capacity of 300 million tonne, capacity enhancements are under consideration by ISPs and other steel plants, but there is no data available for setting up of new steel plants.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development, Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
