Secretary-General Deeply Saddened by Tragic Incident at Indonesia Soccer Stadium

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the tragic incident on 1 October at a soccer stadium in Malang, Indonesia, in which more than 120 people were reportedly killed.

He expresses his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

The Secretary-General urges the authorities to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into this incident and to take all measures necessary to avoid a repetition of such a tragedy.
