Parliament Question: -National Highway Projects in North Eastern Region

190 number of projects having total length of 3,856 km and sanctioned cost Rs. 81,540 crore are under construction on National Highways (NHs) in North Eastern Region. All the under construction works are scheduled/revised scheduled to be completed by September, 2028. Allocation is made State-wise and year-wise for all NH works in a State. Total allocation for NH works in North Eastern Region during Financial Year 2024-25 is Rs. 19,338 crore.

The steps taken to complete these projects expeditiously include the following:

This information was given by the The Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

    1. Streamlining of land acquisition;
    2. Disputes Resolution mechanism revamped;
    3. Award of projects after adequate preparation in terms of land acquisition, clearances, etc.;
    4. Correctly worked out utility estimates obtained at the earliest after the alignment finalization and the same form part of project appraisal;
    5. Close coordination with concerned Ministries and State Governments;
    6. Regular review at various levels;
    7. Expediting approval of Change of Scope and Extension of Time proposals; and
    8. Network Planning Group appraisal before sanction of works so that issues with the project regarding clearances identified beforehand and solution can be worked out in advance.
