New Haj House to come soon in Navi Mumbai

The Haj Committee of India today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for the construction of a New Haj House that will serve as a Transit-cum-Training and Facilitation Centre for Haj Pilgrims at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The MoU was formally signed at the office of CPWD.

The project has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, vide its letter dated 21 January 2026. The proposed centre will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 225 crore and will be funded by Haj Committee of India.

As per the arrangement, the Haj Committee of India has engaged CPWD for execution of the project under its established rules and procedures. CPWD will undertake the planning, design and construction of the facility to ensure timely completion, adherence to quality standards and compliance with the approved project guidelines.

The Transit-cum-Training and Facilitation Centre will serve as a modern integrated facility to support Indian pilgrims before they undertake their sacred journey to Mecca for Haj. The centre is expected to provide training, orientation, accommodation and facilitation services, helping pilgrims prepare better for the pilgrimage and ensuring a smoother travel experience.

Importantly, the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport is also being developed in close proximity to the proposed Haj House. Once operational, the airport will provide enhanced connectivity and logistical convenience for Haj pilgrims, making travel arrangements smoother and more efficient. The location of the new Haj House near the airport is expected to significantly improve the overall facilitation of pilgrims travelling for Haj.

This initiative reflects the Government’s continued commitment to improving infrastructure and services for Haj pilgrims, and strengthening institutional arrangements for the efficient management of pilgrimage-related activities.

Once completed, it will significantly enhance the pre-departure preparation, accommodation and logistical support available to Haj pilgrims from across the country. It will also become an important hub for capacity building and logistical support.

Background

Earlier, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs had conducted a site visit to the proposed location in the month of November last year. The visit was accompanied by officials from the Haj Committee of India and the Central Public Works Department.

During the visit, the Secretary had reviewed the layout and design plan for the upcoming facility and held detailed discussions with officials on the implementation timeline and technical aspects of the project. The team also examined aspects related to connectivity, logistics and amenities to ensure that the proposed facility effectively caters to the needs of Haj pilgrims.
