To fulfill Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s pledge of “Har Ghar Swadeshi , Ghar Ghar Swadeshi” and “Garv se kaho ye Swadeshi hai”, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, inaugurated the “Khadi Diwali Mahotsav” on Friday at Delhi Haat in Pritampura, Delhi. To strengthen Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” campaign, Khadi India, in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank, launched the country’s first Swadeshi “Khadi India-SBI RuPay Prepaid Gift Card”. This card will provide a new digital option for purchasing Khadi productsby digital payment, replacing the traditional paper coupons.
The gift card was unveiled by Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The event was graced by Shri Yogendra Chandolia, Member of Parliament from North-West Delhi, Shri Tilak Ram Gupta, MLA from Tri Nagar Assembly Constituency, and Shri Jai Prakash, former Mayor. Senior officers from SBI and KVIC were also present. The ‘Khadi India-SBI RuPay Prepaid Gift Card’ will strengthen the spirit of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Digital India’ campaigns. Now, Khadi lovers will be able to easily shop at KVIC-operated “Khadi India” stores across the country using this Swadeshi card. While purchasing from the Gift card, Khadi lovers will also benefit from special discounts.
Nearly 50 stalls from Khadi institutions and village industry units across the country, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and the North-Eastern states, have been set up during this Khadi Diwali Festival, which will run until October 20th. These stalls showcase Khadi textiles, herbal products, handicrafts, handmade paper, honey, agarbatti, pottery, leather products, and more. The objective of this exhibition is to promote the sale of Swadeshi products during this festive season, increase the income of rural artisans, and accelerate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” and “Har Ghar Swadeshi” campaigns.
KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar in his address opined that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Khadi is no longer just a fabric but has become the soul and identity of India. He stated that the indigenous “Khadi India SBI RuPay Prepaid Gift Card” is the first gift card of its kind in the country. Through this, Indians will be able to purchase Swadeshi products from Khadi India stores. He also stated that this card is a revolutionary initiative towards the Digital India campaign, which will promote digital transactions and provide consumers with a new, convenient way to purchase Swadeshi products.
Elaborating on the features of the gift card, KVIC Chairman further stated that the ‘Khadi India-SBI RuPay Prepaid Gift Card’ is a modern digital payment tool that functions like a debit card and has a unique 16-digit number. The card is pre-loaded with a pre-approved amount, which can be used only for the purchase of Khadi products. This amount is not withdrawal, ensuring controlled and purposeful use. The card is valid for three years and comes with a PIN number for security. The beneficiary’s name is printed on the card, ensuring personal identification.
He further stated that this card is available at all RuPay-enabled Khadi India stores across the country and at Khadi India’s e-commerce website www.khadiindia.gov.in and online platforms. Customers will receive SMS alerts for every transaction, ensuring transparency and security. Customers can instantly check their card balance and transaction history at SBI ATMs or online portals. Additionally, customers can sign up on the SBI Customer Portal https://oneview.prepaid.sbi to view their card information, balance, and mini-statement, and can also block the card if required. For security reasons, this card is for personal use only. Customers are advised to always swipe or tap the card in their presence, check the transaction slip, and not to share the PIN with anyone. In case of card loss, customers can immediately contact the SBI helpline number 1800-11-22-11 or 1800-425-3800.
Shri Manoj Kumar stated that, under the Prime Minister’s inspiration, the Khadi and Village Industries sector has made historic progress over the past 11 years. Khadi production has surpassed from ₹27,000 crore to approximately ₹1,16,000 crore, while sales have increased from ₹33,000 crore to approximately ₹1,70,000 crore. During this period, approximately 2 crore people have been employed. The establishment of over 10 Lakh units under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is providing employment to approximately 90 lakh people. He said, “Seva and Swadeshi are the strength of New India and the foundation of a Developed India@2047. Let us all pledge to adopt Swadeshi textiles and products to fulfill Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
To further enrich the visitor experience, the exhibition will also feature live demonstrations showcasing India’s traditional arts and crafts. This is not just an exhibition, but a platform that allows rural artists and artisans to showcase their art, encourages their economy, and contributes to preserving India’s swadeshi craftsmanship.
Senior officials and staff from the State Bank of India, Delhi Government, and KVIC, along with representatives from Khadi institutions, PMEGP units, and artisans, participated in the event.
