Japan’s Country Focus Films “Tiger” and “Seaside Serendipity” Spotlighted in Media Interaction

#IFFIWood, 23 November 2025

Japan, the Country Focus at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), drew attention today as the cast and crew of the two featured films, “Tiger” and “Seaside Serendipity,” interacted with the media during a specially organised press conference. The filmmakers shared insights into their creative journeys, thematic inspirations, and the significance of representing Japan on an international platform, adding depth to this year’s Country Focus showcase.

The press conference commenced with the screening of the trailers of both films, following which the crew of Tiger took the stage to introduce their film to the media.

The film “Tiger” narrates the story of a 35-year-old masseuse whose escalating conflict with his sister over property ownership drives him to a critical breaking point, blurring moral boundaries. The narrative also underscores challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, bringing to light issues of identity, rights and social acceptance.

Addressing the media, Director of film Anshul Chauhan spoke about the creative and emotional complexities encountered during the making of the film. He shared his initial apprehension regarding audience reception of such a sensitive theme, noting that representing LGBTQ+ issues as a non-LGBTQ filmmaker required heightened responsibility, sensitivity and respect towards the community.

Speaking during the media interaction Executive Producer of “Seaside Serendipity” Tomomi Yoshimura describes his experiences and creative journey. He expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming appreciation received from the Indian audience, noting that their warmth and enthusiasm made the film’s screening at IFFI especially meaningful.

During the interaction, Tomomi highlighted the core thematic vision behind the film, explaining that he sought to bridge the generational gap between children and adults. He emphasised that the narrative was crafted to foster understanding across age groups, presenting perspectives that resonate with both the young and the old.

Set in a serene seaside town, the Seaside Serendipity captures a community of long-term residents whose lives are stirred by the arrival of artists and a series of unusual events. Centered on middle-schooler Sosuke and the ever-changing town itself, the narrative unfolds through touching vignettes that highlight children’s determination and adults’ search for meaning. Portraying imperfect yet tender characters, The film celebrates love and connection, and the team expressed hope it will continue to resonate with audiences throughout the festival.
