Integration of Skills with Formal Education

National Education Policy 2020 lays emphasis on integration of vocational education programs with mainstream education in all educational institutions in a phased manner. The National Credit Framework (NCrF) has been developed as a comprehensive credit accumulation & transfer framework encompassing elementary, school, higher, and vocational education & training. NCrF integrates creditization of learning in various dimensions i.e. academics, vocational skills and experiential learning including relevant experience and proficiency/ professional levels acquired.

Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) provides financial support for implementing the Centrally Sponsored scheme of ‘Samagra Shiksha’. Vocational Education is one of the components under Samagra Shiksha scheme.

Under Vocational Education component of ‘Samagra Shiksha’, NSQF aligned vocational courses are offered to the students from class 9^th to 12^th in the schools covered under the scheme. At the Secondary level (Class IX and X), vocational modules are offered to the students as an additional subject. At Sr. Secondary level (Class XI and XII), vocational courses are offered as a compulsory (elective) subject. Details of 138 Job Roles approved for introduction as Skill subjects in school for Class IX to XII is at Annexure.

Employability Skill modules including Communication Skills, Self-Management Skills, Information and Communication Technology Skills, Entrepreneurship Skills, and Green Skills has been made a mandatory part of skill subject under Samagra Shiksha Scheme.

A total of 29,342 schools have been approved for integrating skilling with formal education in the country, out of which it has been implemented in 24,560 schools with a reported enrolment of 31,94,282 students.

Under the scheme, the Hub and Spoke Model has been adopted so that the infrastructure available in the Hub schools are utilised by the students of nearby schools (spoke schools) for Skill training.
