Fish production after launch of PMMSY
The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India with effect from the Financial Year 2020-21 has been implementing Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for holistic development of fisheries and aquaculture sector in the country. This scheme during its implementation period of last five years has made vital contribution towards augmentation of fish production in the country. During the period of PMMSY, the fish production in the country has increased from 141.64 lakh tonne (2019-20) to 197.75 lakh tonne (2024-25).
(b): The PMMSY inter-alia encompasses inclusive development by providing higher financial assistance of 60 percent of the unit cost for women beneficiaries under beneficiary-oriented activities. Under the PMMSY, during the last five financial years (2020-21 to 2024-25), fisheries and aquaculture development proposals amounting to Rs. 4061.96 crore with central share of Rs.1534.46 crore have been sanctioned to benefit to a total of 99,018 women beneficiaries across various States and Union Territories including 3366 women beneficiaries from Jharkhand.
(c) & (d) : The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India during the last five years (FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25), has sanctioned a total of 734 cold storages and ice plants, 27,301 units of fish transportation facilities such as 10924 motorcycles with ice boxes, 9412 bicycles with ice boxes, 3915 auto rickshaws, 1265 live fish vending units, 1406 insulated trucks and 379 refrigerated trucks, 6410 fish kiosks, 202 fish retail markets, 21 wholesale fish markets under PMMSY in all the States and Union Territories at a total outlay of Rs 2375.25 crore.
