Empowering of Elderly Women

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens(IPSrC), a component of the scheme of Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana(AVYAY), under which grant-in-aid is provided to Non-Governmental/Voluntary Organizations for running and maintenance of Senior Citizens’ Homes (old age homes), Continuous Care Homes, etc. Facilities like shelter, nutrition, medicare and entertainments are provided free of cost to indigent senior citizens of all the genders to ensure ageing with dignity. Under the scheme, grant-in-aid is also provided to Senior Citizens’ Homes for Elderly Women in particular. Presently a total of 604 Senior Citizens’ Homes are being supported under the IPSrC, out of which 25 are Senior Citizens’ Homes for Elderly Women.

The Department is also implementing State Action Plan for Senior Citizens under which grant-in-aid is provided to the States/Union Territories for the following:-

  1. Creation of a pool of trained Geriatric Caregivers for senior citizens;
  2. Conduct of special drive for Cataract Surgeries for senior citizens;
  3. State-specific activities, including awareness generation and sensitization, for the welfare of senior citizens, especially who are indigent.
