Goa, 29 September 2025
On 27th September 2025, Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, at an event at Berhampur in Odisha, inaugurated over 97500 mobile towers, of which more than 92600 were indigenous BSNL 4G full stack of Swadeshi Technology, connecting 26000 unconnected villages. The towers included a 4G mobile tower in Morpila, Quepem Taluka of South Goa district.
The inauguration of the towers by the Prime Minister was live-streamed at an event organized by Directorate of Telecom (DoT), Goa, Ministry of Communication, Government of India, at Morpila Gram Panchayat hall. Shri Rajeev Kumar, Deputy Director General (State Coordination), DoT Goa, and Shri L.B Lal, General Manager, BSNL, Goa, were present at the event, along with the Sarpanch of Morpila Gram Panchayat and the villagers.
The mobile tower is a fully indigenous 4G technology stack featuring a Radio Access Network developed by Tejas Network, a core network by C-DOT, and integrated by TCS. The software is upgradable to 5G.
The tower in Morpila has been installed under the 4G saturation project of the Central government and will provide improved mobile network and internet connectivity, enabling residents, especially youth, to access digital learning resources, online job facilities, and other cyber world benefits. The enhanced connectivity is part of a government initiative to reduce the digital divide in rural areas, bringing faster speeds and better coverage to the village and boosting overall digital inclusion.
With the nation-wide project, India joins a select group of about five nations worldwide to have developed and deployed a homegrown 4G stack, reinforcing the country’s technological self-reliance and national security.
