AMD Central Region Hosts Workshop on Atomic and Critical Mineral Resources in Central India

Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Central Region, Nagpur, successfully organised a one-day thematic workshop titled “Atomic and Critical Mineral Resources: Geological Insights from Central India” as part of AMD’s year-long celebrations commemorating its 75th year. The event brought together geoscientists, researchers and stakeholders to discuss geological frameworks and exploration strategies for atomic and critical minerals in Central India. As the oldest unit of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, AMD is entrusted with identifying, evaluating and augmenting atomic and associated critical mineral resources essential for India’s Nuclear Power Programme and technological advancement. 

Shri Dheerej Pande, Director, AMD, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the strategic importance of atomic and critical minerals and AMD’s pioneering exploration role. He called for continued geological research and innovation. Shri Prem Kumar Sharma, Additional Director, AMD, the Guest of Honour, shared insights into the Directorate’s aerial survey initiatives, which are vital for mineral prospecting. Dignitaries from GSI, IBM, MECL, MOIL, DGMs of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, RTM Nagpur University and institutions such as JNARDDC, NEERI, NRSC, MRSAC, Pune University, Raman Science Centre, GGS, CIMFR, CMPDIL and WCL participated. Several retired geoscientists from AMD and allied organizations were also present.

The workshop was coordinated under the leadership of Shri Shrikant R. Manthanwar, Regional Director, AMD, Central Region. In his welcome address, he highlighted the mineral potential of Central India and stressed the need for collaborative exploration efforts. The event featured a series of technical sessions and presentations by AMD scientists and domain experts, offering valuable insights into resource development strategies.
