The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, under the aegis of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, commemorated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm and participation at the Indoor Stadium, Sports Authority of Goa Complex, Peddem, Mapusa. Themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the event was titled Yoga Sangam, symbolizing the unifying power of yoga for holistic well-being.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Geeta Suresh Nagvenkar, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa. The session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa.
A major highlight of the event was the mass demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol, performed by over 650 enthusiastic participants. This included students and faculty of AIIA Goa, trainees from Khelo India, officials from the Sports Authority of Goa, representatives from various state and central government bodies, and members of the general public.
In her keynote, Dr. Geeta Nagvenkar underlined the importance of the International Day of Yoga in promoting both physical and mental well-being.
Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, in her address, emphasized the essential role of Yoga and Ayurveda in ensuring holistic health and sustainable living. She proudly shared that AIIA Delhi & Goa celebrate the IDY every year with dedication and enthusiasm. She mentioned that AIIA Goa, organized a 100-day-long celebration, comprising over 100 diverse events. These included the Harit Yoga campaign, Yoga at Iconic and Heritage Places, Yoga Samavesh for senior citizens, Iyengar Yoga Workshops, and various educational competitions.
Prof. Dr. Mohan Joshi, Associate Dean, AIIA Goa, detailed on the 100 day activities undertaken by the institute through sharing the glimpses of short videos. He extended deep gratitude to all participants, institutional collaborators, the Sports Authority of Goa, Khelo India, GTDC, and all supporting organizations for their unwavering support in making the event a success.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Yoga Day address from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was live telecast at the event. In his remarks, the Prime Minister stated, “Eleven years on, yoga has become an integral part of the lifestyle of millions across the globe.” He further emphasized yoga’s collective significance, noting that “Yoga is a profound personal discipline that, at the same time, serves as a collective system – one that transitions individuals from Me to We”.
