AI Impact Casebooks on Energy and Accessibility Released at India AI Impact Summit 2026
The AI Impact Casebooks focusing on Energy and Accessibility were released at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The publications bring together global experiences on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for sustainable development and inclusive growth.
The casebooks have been prepared through collaboration among government ministries, international agencies, research organisations and foundations. They are designed as long-term knowledge resources for policymakers and practitioners across countries.
The Energy compendium has been developed in partnership with the International Energy Agency (IEA). It highlights the dual role of AI in the energy transition. On one hand, AI is driving additional electricity demand due to growing compute needs. On the other hand, it is helping improve energy system efficiency. The compendium documents use cases in grid optimisation, renewable energy integration, data centre efficiency and emerging solutions that balance rising compute requirements with climate commitments.
The Accessibility volume presents AI-led interventions in assistive devices, early diagnosis, adaptive learning, advanced prosthetics and mental health support. It also emphasises the importance of privacy safeguards, ethical deployment and culturally contextual innovation.
Speaking at the launch, Shri Abhishek Singh, Director General, NIC and Additional Secretary, MeitY and CEO of India AI, said that one of the key outcomes of the pre-summit consultations was the need to compile AI use cases, best practices and global learnings across priority sectors. He stated that the compendia would serve as guidebooks for countries, especially in the Global South, where many development challenges are similar. He added that the knowledge repository would help governments and innovators replicate successful solutions, connect with startups and scale impactful interventions.
Shri Siddharth Singh from the World Energy Outlook, Office of the Chief Energy Economist, IEA, said that while much attention is given to the energy demand created by AI, it is equally important to recognise the positive impact AI can have on the energy sector. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage greater focus on productive uses of AI that benefit the economy and society.
The launch was attended by Shri Piyush Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power; Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Mr. Praveen Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, ALIMCO; and Dr. Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The casebooks are intended to support cross-country learning, enable replication of proven models and strengthen the evidence base for deploying AI in areas related to climate action and social inclusion.
