Environment friendly transportation of Iron ore

Government has made it mandatory to obtain Environment Clearance (EC) for iron ore mining, iron and steel industrial projects. As per terms of reference for EC, project proponents must ensure environment friendly transport and include this aspect in impact assessment and environment management plan. Environmental standards including ambient air quality surrounding steel plants for iron and steel plants and for iron ore mining and processing are notified in Environment(Protection) Rules, 1986.  As per EC terms, air and water quality monitoring in project areas must be carried out by project proponents and reports submitted on a half yearly basis.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development, Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
