Feasibility Study Underway to Develop Talgaria Station of Jharkhand as Satellite Terminal by Railways; Capacity Expansion to Benefit Passengers in Dhanbad-Bokaro Industrial Belt

Talgaria Station is situated on Bokaro- Adra section of South Eastern Railway about 30 km from Bokaro.

There are 06 lines (2 main lines & 4 loop lines) and 04 high level platforms at Talgaria Station. Average daily footfall at Talgaria Station is about 200 passengers. This station is presently being served by 04 train services as under:

At Talgaria station, all passenger facilities like platform shelter, urinal, lavatory, waiting hall, drinking water arrangement, seating arrangement, Foot Over Bridge etc. are available. The works of high-level platform, platform shelter, booking office cum waiting hall, toilet, water booth, Divyangjan ramp at platform no. 1 and 3 m Foot Over Bridge have been completed in recent years.

Talgaria Station

To augment capacity of Talgaria Station, Doubling of Talgaria – Bokaro North Cabin section (38 Km) has been recently completed.  Work for doubling of Bhojudih – Talgaria section (12.5 Km) has been taken up to augment the capacity further.

There are 09 lines & 03 high level platforms existing at Bokaro Steel City Station. Further, Bokaro Steel City Station has been identified for development under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. At this station, the following works have been taken up:

•           One additional island platform

•           One additional line

•           Extension of one platform

•           Improvement of station building

•           Surfacing of platform no. 1, 2 & 3

•           Escalators

•           new waiting hall

•           retiring room

•           Parking, approach road, entry/exit gate, boundary wall

•           Tactile pathway for Divyangjan at platform no. 1 and improvement of Divyangjan toilet at platform no. 2

Bokaro Steel City Station

To augment capacity of rail network at Bokaro station, following works have been taken up:

·         Bokaro Steel City – Bokaro North Cabin (3.75 Km) 3rd and 4th line work.

·         Bokaro Steel City – Damrughutu 3rd& 4th line and

·         Damrughutu – Barbenda (30Km) doubling

Besides, provision of stoppages of train services depends on the traffic justification, operational feasibility including availability of extra time on the section & availability of matching infrastructure such as Platform length etc.

The proposals for development of Station as a satellite station are examined with respect to assessment of passenger footfall, traffic trends, and earnings of station, keeping in view future growth, and requirements of further development.

The feasibility of developing Talgaria Station as a satellite terminal has been taken up.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme:

Development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. Development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of a station is carried out based on category of station/condition/traffic handled etc.

So far, 1,338 stations have been identified for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Out of these, 57 stations are located in Jharkhand. The name of stations identified under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Jharkhand are as following:

The activities for development at other stations have also been taken up at good pace and progress of some of the above stations is as given below:

Development / Upgradation / Modernization of stations including Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is generally funded under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’. The details of allocation and expenditure under Plan Head-53 are maintained Zonal Railway-wise and not work-wise or station-wise or state-wise. Jharkhand is covered under the jurisdiction of three railway zones, namely, Eastern Railway, East Central Railway and South Eastern Railway. For these zones, an allocation of ₹ 1,469 crore has been made for the financial year 2025-26, out of which an expenditure (up to February, 2026) of ₹ 1,447 crore has been incurred so far.
