Fisheries Training Centres in Himachal Pradesh

       The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, during the year 2022-23, has approved the proposal of Government of Himachal Pradesh for Establishment of state of Art Fisheries Training Centre, Gagret at a total cost of Rs. 5.17 crore with project cost restricted for interest subvention of Rs. 5.00 crore under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF). National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) being one of the Nodal Loaning Entities (NLEs) under FIDF has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 5.00 crore to the Government of Himachal Pradesh for the Establishment of state of Art Fisheries Training Centre, Gagret and an amount of Rs. 5.00 crore has been disbursed by NABARD. 

 

(c): The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has been implementing various schemes/programmes for holistic development of fisheries in the country in all States/UTs including Himachal Pradesh. The major schemes include Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) (2020-21 to 2025-26), Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) (2018-19 to 2025-26), and a Central Sector Sub-scheme of PMMSY namely Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana (PM-MKSSY) (2023-24 to 2026-27). In addition, the Government of India with effect from 2018-19 has extended KCC facility to fishers and fish farmers to meet their working capital requirements. These schemes are primarily designed to address critical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernisation and strengthening of value chain, Strengthening livelihood and fishers’ welfare.

Besides Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) issued to fisheries farmers in Himachal Pradesh, the state has also witnessed a significant rise in fish production. Fish output has increased from 13,745 tonnes in 2019–20 to 16,250 tonnes in 2025–26, marking steady growth in the sector. This includes production of 2,850 tonnes in Kangra district and 1,920 tonnes in Chamba district, reflecting the expanding aquaculture base in these regions.
