NMMA AND MUSEUM GRANTS SCHEME
The National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities (NMMA) has so far documented 11,406 Unprotected Monuments (Built Heritage and Sites) and 12,48,775 antiquities of this country.
State-wise data particularly in respect of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh during last 3 years is at Annexure-I.
Ministry of Culture operates Museum Grant Scheme under which financial assistance is provided for setting up of New Museums/development/modernization of the existing museums/digitization of museum collections/setting up of virtual museums and training of museums professionals of museums managed by Central/State Governments, Societies, Autonomous bodies, Public sector Undertaking, local bodies, Academic Institutions and Trusts registered under the societies Act at the regional, State and District Level including Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra.
A consolidated amount Rs. 30 lakhs have been allotted to the NMMA in the current financial year. Details of the amount allocation and utilisation under the Museum Grant Scheme year wise including district wise in West Bengal and state-wise during the last three years are at Annexure-II.
NMMA regularly conducts workshops in various regions to raise awareness and organises training programs for universities, colleges, NGOs, and other interested organizations, in coordination with field offices of ASI and the State-Level Implementation Committees (SLIC) in each state to speed up the documentation work.
