Madhya Pradesh secured the fourth position nationally under JSJB 1.0. Notably, Khandwa district (East Nimar) achieved the first rank among all districts in the country, reflecting strong district-level leadership and effective community participation in water conservation efforts.
During the review, key initiatives from Madhya Pradesh were highlighted, including large-scale water conservation activities undertaken in forest areas and the State Government’s Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, which has mobilised communities across the State for conservation of water bodies, revival of rivers and strengthening of local water sources. These initiatives demonstrate how community participation and locally adapted interventions can significantly contribute to groundwater recharge and sustainable water management.
Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav reaffirmed the State Government’s strong commitment to water conservation and assured that Madhya Pradesh will continue to remain a frontrunner in the national effort to secure water resources. He noted that the State is mindful of the need for sustained water conservation and is actively promoting initiatives such as Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan to strengthen community participation in water conservation, river rejuvenation, source sustainability and cleanliness of rivers that originate from or flow through Madhya Pradesh.
Addressing the District Collectors and Divisional Commissioners, Minister Shri C. R. Patil emphasised that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari has evolved into a nationwide Jan Andolan, transforming water conservation into a people’s movement. He highlighted that districts such as Khandwa have demonstrated how strong community participation can create exemplary outcomes in water conservation and river rejuvenation.
Shri C. R. Patil also referred to the “Karmabhoomi Se Matribhoomi Abhiyan”, under which members of the business community from Surat and other parts of Gujarat have contributed towards water conservation efforts in their native regions. As part of Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari, such contributions have also supported water conservation works in Madhya Pradesh, demonstrating how individuals and communities can give back to their matribhoomi through collective action for water security.
The Minister further highlighted that funds have been earmarked under MGNREGA for water conservation activities and urged all districts to utilise these resources effectively before the onset of the monsoon. He called upon all districts to come forward with renewed commitment and deliver outstanding results under JSJB 2.0 through focused implementation, convergence of schemes and strong community participation.
Congratulating Madhya Pradesh for its achievements under JSJB 1.0, Shri C. R. Patil expressed confidence that the State will further accelerate its efforts under JSJB 2.0 and continue to lead by example in community-driven water conservation and sustainable water management.
