Department of School Education and Literacy organised National Conference on UDISE+ from 27th February to 28th February, 2026 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education (MoE) along with the Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha co-hosted a two days’ workshop on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha which commenced on 27th February 2026, bringing together senior officials from DoSEL, Education Boards across India and key education departments and organisations to deliberate on strengthening data-driven educational governance.

Inaugurating the conference, Shri Dheeraj Sahu, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India, emphasized the critical role of reliable and timely educational data in ensuring transparency and accountability. He deliberated on widening the horizon of UDISE+ by tracking the learning outcome of the students as well as dropped out students through APAAR id. He also urged the States/districts to analyse the reasons of dropping out of students from School ecosystem.

In his Welcome Address, Dr. Pankaj K.P. Shreyaskar, Deputy Director General, DoSEL, highlighted the strategic importance of UDISE+ in supporting national initiatives including National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Dr. Shreyaskar emphasised on data harmonisation, quality and Security of data and integration of various portals with UDISE + through API to ease the burden of reporting by the schools.

The conference was attended by Shri Vikas Gupta, Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS); Ms. A. Srija, Economic Advisor (EA), DoSEL; and Ms. Ananya Das, State Project Director (SPD), OSEPA, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar.

During the panel discussion, the panelists from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Indian Air Force (AIF), Navy Educational Society (NES), and National Institute of Open School (NIOS), the significance of UDISE + data base and its benefits, as also their expectation beyond what are being offered by UDISE+ were deliberated upon. The School Education Departments of Government of Odisha, Government of Haryana and Government of Andhra Pradesh demonstrated their best practices adopted to strengthen the school data ecosystem for better evidence-based decision making.

During the second day of workshop i.e. on 28th February 2026, School Education Departments of Government of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Telangana and Maharashtra shared their best practices by demonstrating their dashboards and highlighting their initiatives to ensure the data accuracy and widen the coverage of UDISE +. The following sessions with panelists from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Goa and Odisha wherein the need for integration of various datasets relating to school education, including of the Boards, ensuring the sanctity of data sets.  

DoSEL highlighted salient features in UDISE+, recent upgradations in UDISE+, scope for areas to be explored for use of Artificial Intelligence in UDISE+ ecosystem using tools like automated data flagging, smart verification queues, AI helpdesk for data entry & automated school report card etc.

In the closing remarks, Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Secretary, Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha impressed upon the significance of UDISE + data base in making policy interventions, and the need for its further enrichment.

The workshop was woven around technical sessions, panel discussions and open houses. Through this workshop, Educational Institutions, Examination Boards and State Governments shared their insights and articulated their expectations from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) database. This forum also welcomed the sharing of innovative technological initiatives and best practices adopted by States to strengthen data management, integration, validation, and utilisation within the UDISE+ framework.
