The current categorization of A, A1, B, and D is a revision of A, B and D categorization which was followed earlier based on Government of Kerala’s Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) system. A, A1, B, and D categorization came into existence from 01/03/2022 and is based on socio economic conditions of the beneficiaries to ensure that benefits reach the maximum number of truly needy and economically disadvantaged patients.

This information was given by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, MoS Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
