Expansion of Highways in North-Eastern States

State-wise details of 179 widening (expansion) works on National Highways and 13 Road over Bridge (RoB) works awarded during the last three years in the North-Eastern States are given at Annexure- A.

All NH works including those in NER States are being executed by contractors as per the standards & specifications of the Ministry / relevant IRC Codes. Works are regularly supervised through Authority Engineer/Independent Engineer, appointed by the Authority. Tests on the works are carried out as per prescribed frequency during various stages of construction for checking quality and ensuring its conformity to the laid down standards & specifications prescribed under the contract. In addition, inspections are also carried out by field officers of implementing agencies (State PWD / NHIDCL/ NHAI/ BRO) from time to time apart from inspections by Ministry’s Officers for ensuring quality and adherence to norms. All the works including in North Eastern states are regularly reviewed and monitored at the levels of implementing agencies (State PWD / NHIDCL/ NHAI/ BRO), Regional offices and Ministry’s Headquarter for their timely completion. In last three years, 62 National Highway widening (expansion) / ROB works at a total cost of Rs. 13690 Crore, including 8 works out of those awarded during the last three years, have been completed.
