Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh says, a total of 145 young scientists were supported to visit leading institutions/universities across the globe for a period of 02-06 months to impart high-end research training in frontier areas of science and technology under SERB-International Research Experience (SIRE) scheme

Union Minister of State, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, M/o Earth Sciences; MoS, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said that a total of 145 young scientists were supported to visit leading institutions/universities across the globe for a period of 02-06 months to impart high-end research training in frontier areas of science and technology under SERB-International Research Experience (SIRE) scheme.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Ministry of Science and Technology is implementing various schemes for research work and promotion for encouraging new scientists and young scientists. Some of the key programmes/scheme supported a number of new and junior scientists since 2014 include: Department of Science and Technology (DST) -Young Scientists and Technologists (SYST) – 235; Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB)- National Post-Doctoral Fellowship (N- PDF) – 3799; SERB-Young Scientist Scheme (YSS) – 2177; SERB-Early Career Research Award (ECRA) – 2006; Start-up Research Grant (SRG) – 1815; CSIR through its National S&T Human Resource Development Scheme awarded 1689 Postdoctoral Fellowships; Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Faculty Fellowship scheme supported 1082 fellows to pursue research for a period of 5 years in both basic and applied science areas.

Dr Jitendra Singh further mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology has been implementing several schemes/programmes for promoting S&T breakthrough in areas covering the emerging/futuristic technology areas. Some of the major schemes/programmes include the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems; National Super Computing Mission; National Mission in Nano Science and Technology; Clean Energy Research Initiative; Water Technology Initiative, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage; Technology Research Centres, INSPIRE-MANAK etc. Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) through its National Laboratories Scheme, has been promoting various R&D projects in both basic and applied research.

The Minister further added that CSIR is continuously striving for commercialization and deployment of knowledge base developed in its laboratories for the benefit of the masses. Amongst distinct categories of R&D projects leading to development of technologies and products, CSIR has been implementing Mission Mode Projects (MMPs), New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI) Program, Fast Track Translation (FTT) Projects, Fast Track Commercialization (FTC) Projects, Facility Creation Projects (FCP) and COVID-related Major Laboratory Projects (MLP) beside in- house projects of CSIR Labs.
